Do you know how you can enhance the results of your IPL? Keep reading to learn more.
What is an IPL?
An IPL, also known as a photofacial, is a laser treatment that uses bright light to improve the appearance of your skin. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. The light has multiple targets to address concerns such as dark spots, uneven color, redness, broken capillaries, uneven texture, fine lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores. A common concern is pigment changes and uneven color. The light targets the specific pigment in your skin called melanin to destroy the dark spots. Once they’re destroyed, they either flake off your skin or are absorbed by your skin. You’ll want a series of six sessions to start out with spaced every four weeks or so. After that a single maintenance IPL treatment will keep your skin looking youthful and healthy.
How can I get better results from my IPL?
Any time you add something to your IPL treatment, you’ll have better results. The most important thing is to make sure you’re using sunscreen every day. Dr. Alex recommends a sunscreen with SPF of 30 or more with broad spectrum protection. There are a variety of other skin care products you can use to make your skin look even better.
In terms of treatments, there are a lot of them that you can combine to enhance the results of your IPL treatment. One of the most popular treatments to combine with your IPL is a Micro Laser Peel. We call this combination the Soft and Smooth Rejuvenation, because that’s how your skin will look. The IPL makes the color of your skin smooth and the Micro Laser Peel makes the texture of your skin feel soft. The Micro Laser Peel is an easy treatment with little to no down time. Unlike a traditional chemical peel where a peeling solution is applied to your skin and the skin flakes off after a few days, with a Micro Laser Peel, a thin layer of dead skin cells is instantly removed by the laser. This way you won’t peel like a snake. Removing a thin layer of your skin will enhance the results of your IPL by allowing the uneven color to slough off faster. It will also make the surface of your skin smoother, which will make your skin glow.
