Dr. Alex attended the fifth annual Los Aneles Multispecialty Cosmetic Academy (LAMCA) conference March 10-13, 2022 at the Four Seasons hotel in Los Angeles. This was the first time in over two years that Dr. Alex has attended a live educational event or conference due to Covid-19 restrictions. After two years of having virtual conferences, we are now able to have in-person events again. One of the best things about the event was to see and interact with friends and colleagues directly in-person.
The LAMCA conference is organized by Dr. Kian Karimi of Rejuva Aesthetics in Brentwood, CA. It features a variety of learning opportunities in aesthetics. As a multispecialty event, the LAMCA traditionally was geared towards surgeons and non-surgeons involved in aesthetic medicine and included sessions focused on surgery and marketing. This year the event was geared more towards nurses and mid-levels (nurse practitioners and physicians assistants) and focused almost exclusively on injectables and threads. This is likely due to the fact that they perform the majority of cosmetic treatments nationwide.
There were multiple didactic sessions the first two days. These included topics such as Botox, dermal fillers, threads, and safety. The event also included multiple smaller sessions on topics such as advanced fillers, off-label Botox, and more. The last two days featured multiple in-person live demonstrations with Botox, dermal fillers, and threads. This was a new and unique opportunity to see how different providers perform the various treatments. In addition, multiple ancillary courses were available such as an ultrasound course and a cadaver dissection.
The newest treatment discussed at the LAMCA conference was Qwo, a new injectable treatment for cellulite on the buttocks and thighs. This included a demonstration and discussion of the treatment. There is a significant amount of bruising associated with a Qwo treatment and the company is performing studies on how to reduce it. During this time, they are not marketing it much which is why many people haven’t heard of fit.
National conferences and other events are outstanding ways to learn about new products, treatments, and techniques. Dr. Alex is looking forward to attending more in the future.
