What’s the Difference between Ultra Microneedling and Microneedling?

Have you heard of microneedling? It’s a great treatment that will address many of your concerns. Well, we have Ultra Microneedling, which is even better. Keep reading to learn more.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment that has become very popular in the past few years. As its name implies, microneedling uses tiny needles to make holes in the skin. This will correct the color and improve the texture of your skin. So if you have uneven color, dark spots, or sun spots, a series of microneedling treatments will help. Microneedling can help if you have textural issues as well. Fine lines? Wrinkles? Enlarged pores? Acne scars? You can treat all of these things with microneedling. The holes create microscopic injuries to your skin. As your skin heals, it will make new, fresh, and healthy collagen. Collagen is the protein that keeps your skin smooth, firm, and tight. Over time your skin makes less collagen, making it look wrinkled or saggy. You can also see enlarged pores. As your body makes more collagen, all of these changes will improve. Acne scars, or indented scars, are caused by damage to the collagen in your skin. Microneedling will get rid of the damaged collagen and replace it with normal collagen to make your skin smooth again.

What is Ultra Microneedling?

Ultra Microneedling is a treatment designed by Dr. Alex to give you even better results than traditional microneedling. With Ultra Microneedling, Dr. Alex uses a laser technology to create the tiny holes. This increases the precision and the holes are even smaller. This means there are no needles and there is no bleeding. As you might imagine, when many needles are injected into your skin you may have a lot of bleeding. But you don’t get this with Ultra Microneedling. This means your recovery will be much shorter. Typically, you’ll have three to five days of redness or swelling with Ultra Microneedling using traditional settings. Another great thing about Ultra Microneedling is that the settings can be changed. So it can go more or less deep or create more or fewer holes. This can change your results and recovery time. An Ultra Microneedling treatment (about 2-3 minutes) is much faster than a regular microneedling treatment (15-20 minutes). Finally, the laser technology in Ultra Microneedling creates heat in your skin. This stimulates your body to make even more collagen.

How many Ultra Microneedling treatments do I need?

Dr. Alex recommends a series of six Ultra Microneedling treatments. You can have your Ultra Microneedling treatments every one to two months. We’re trying to stimulate collagen and collagen is a microscopic protein. So you won’t see your results right away. You’ll see your full results of your Ultra Microneedling treatments three, six, or even 12 months after your final treatment. So patience is important. After your initial series of Ultra Microneedling treatments, Dr. Alex recommends one Ultra Microneedling treatment every three months to keep your skin looking healthy.

What should I do after an Ultra Microneedling treatment?

After an Ultra Microneedling, your skin will be red and hot for a few hours. We’ll apply a hydrating sheet mask on your skin for about 15 minutes after your Ultra Microneedling treatment to keep your comfortable. Your skin will feel rough for a few days and you may even see the tiny holes if you look closely. We’ll give you aftercare products to use for the first week or so after your Ultra Microneedling. During this first week your skin will be sensitive so don’t use anything that may irritate it like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or retinoids. Just use a gentle cleanser, keep the skin moist, and apply an ointment. Be sure to use a physical sunscreen.
