Treating Aging in All Layers

There are many changes associated with aging such as uneven color, irregular texture, and loose skin. These changes occur in different layers and each of the layers needs to be treated appropriately for best results.

Skin

The skin is the outermost layer in the body. Changes seen include uneven color, irregular texture, and loose skin causing fine lines and wrinkles. These changes are primarily due to sun exposure. Correction of uneven color can be done with topical products, chemical peels, IPL photofacials, or Ultra Microneedling. Irregular texture can be treated using skin care products, chemical peels, and laser treatments. To treat fine lines, wrinkles, and loose skin you need something to stimulate collagen. Collagen is the protein in your skin that keeps it firm and tight. Over time the collagen becomes damaged from the sun and your body stops making as much of it. As a result, you see fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Topical products such as retin-A work well to stimulate your body to make more collagen. Laser treatments such as Laser Skin Tightening, Ultra Microneedling, and Fractional CO2 resurfacing will help even more.

Muscle

You have many muscles directly under the skin in your face. We use these muscles to make facial expressions, eat, speak, etc. Many of these muscles directly attach to the skin. With many contractions that occur over time, your skin gets slightly tugged and pulled. This causes wrinkles such as frown lines. Relaxing muscles with Botox can help improve these wrinkles. Botox can also be used to slim the lower face and improve your jawline definition.

Fat and Bones

Over time the fat in the deeper layers of your skin changes, and so does the structure of your bones. In some areas such as the neck you can get buildup of fat that gives the appearance of a double chin. This fat can be removed with treatments such as Kybella. In other areas such as under the eyes you lose fat and you can see hollowing. The volume loss in these areas can be treated with fillers. At the same time, the bones in the face change. For example, the cheek bones go downward and inward. This leads to the loss of the apple of your cheek, formation of laugh lines (nasolabial folds) and marionette lines, and jowls. The jawbone also changes which causes a loss of jawline definition. Fillers can be used to restore the structural support that is lost by these changes.

Usually a combination of multiple types of treatments will address your concerns and give you the best results.
